This section is designed for people in their first week of a new job or volunteer position in a sports club, youth centre or community organisation.
If you are a supervisor wanting to learn more about induction for new staff, go to the Orientating and inducting new staff section.
Before you begin working with any young people, it is important that you have a basic understanding of some of your legal responsibilities.
The following three presentations are designed to give you a very basic level of understanding of three areas that are particularly important- Child Protection, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Privacy and Confidentiality. Work through them one at a time, with a note pad beside you to take down anything you do not understand or that you have questions about. It is important that you ask questions of your supervisor regarding anything you aren't sure about, or that doesn't make sense to you.
Each section has three parts-
A slideshow document, which tells you the information;
At least one handout, with information to print about the show's topic; and
An 'induction check' sheet, which is a short set of questions about that topic. Your supervisor may want you to complete this sheet to show that you have completed the learning session.
